About the ICPC classifications

ICPC-2,

...or the International Classification of Primary Care, is a system developed by the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) to categorize patient care encounters in primary care settings. First published in 1998 and revised in 2005, ICPC-2 classifies health problems, interventions, and reasons for encounter into chapters and components, aiding in clinical documentation, research, and health information systems worldwide. It supports standardized communication among healthcare professionals and facilitates global health data analysis.

ICPC-3

...the updated version of the International Classification of Primary Care, enhances the classification system for primary care encounters with improved coding for modern healthcare needs. It includes expanded chapters, refined codes, and better integration with electronic health records. The key differences from ICPC-2 are more detailed classifications, incorporation of new health concepts, and alignment with contemporary clinical practices, facilitating more accurate data recording, interoperability, and comprehensive health analysis in primary care.
